# Shopify Favicon Not Updating? Here's the Fix

You picked a new favicon and the live store still shows the old one. On Shopify that's nearly always a draft theme that was never published, or the image CDN and browser caching the previous icon.

## Published theme, or a draft?

The customizer preview and the live storefront are different URLs. Edit a favicon on a theme you haven't published and the preview updates while production keeps the old icon. The setting belongs to the draft, not the shop.

Once the right theme is published, the rendered link is a Shopify CDN URL. A stale icon after that is the CDN or the browser holding the previous image, not the setting.

## Work through it

1. **Publish the theme you edited** — Confirm you changed the favicon on the published theme, not a draft. If it was a draft, publish it before anything else.
2. **Check the live storefront in a private window** — Load the published store (not the customizer preview) in a fresh private window, so the browser's cached icon doesn't mislead you.
3. **Give the CDN a moment, then recheck** — The image CDN can briefly serve the old asset after a change. Re-open the direct storefront URL after a short wait before assuming the setting didn't take.

## Shopify favicon not updating: FAQ

### The favicon changed in the customizer but not on the live store.

You almost certainly edited a draft theme. Check whether that theme is published; if not, publish it. Once published, the link is a CDN URL, so load the storefront in a private window to bypass the browser's cached icon.

### How do I force the Shopify favicon to update?

Publish the theme carrying the new favicon, then view the live store in a private window. There's no file to version. The icon is served from Shopify's CDN, so it's the theme state and the caches you control.

### Why does it look right for me but not for customers?

Your browser may have cached the new icon while others still hold the old one, or a draft is only previewing for you. Confirm the theme is published and test in a browser that never saw the old favicon.
