Favicon size questions

What size should a favicon be?

A complete site normally serves 16×16 and 32×32 browser favicons, a 180×180 Apple touch icon, and 192×192 plus 512×512 PWA icons. Start from a square 512×512 source so every output stays sharp.

Is 32×32 enough for a favicon?

It is enough for many browser tabs, but not for Home Screen icons, PWA installation, high-density shortcuts, or search surfaces. Keep the 32px file and generate larger app-icon sizes from a higher-resolution source.

Should a favicon be square?

Yes. Use a square canvas even if the visible mark is circular. Browsers and operating systems apply their own masks, so important artwork should stay inside a central safe area.
